ABOUT THE MAP
On December 1, 1955 a bus driver in Montgomery, Alabama, ordered Rosa Parks to give away her seat in the segregated compartment to a white passenger after the white section was filled.
Parks refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a public bus spurred a citywide boycott to end segregation of public facilities.
